Best Epson Sublimation Printer – Wide Format & Cheap Ecotank Printers

So you wanted to spend less and start your sublimation business with Epson but you’re unaware of what Epson sublimation printer you need to choose. Not all Epson printers withstand the sublimation process; you need to choose some compatible Epson printers for sublimation. Based on our experience, Epson provides the most economical and best sublimation printers after Sawgrass and Ricoh.

Unlike other printers, Epson printers have a piezo printing head. An Epson eco tank printer transfers the design onto the paper without transferring the ink into a liquid form. Thus, Epson printers force the ink from solid to a direct gaseous state without turning it into liquid form. That’s why Epson can handle the dye sublimation process with ease.

We call them the best Epson sublimation printers because they are quite affordable and ready-to-go printers. You just need to fill ink tanks with sublimation ink and here you go! You can sublimate all kinds of blanks including tumblers, mugs, leather, canvas, and many more.

You can check below how to convert an Epson printer into a sublimation printer. But remember only Epson’s eco tank printers can be converted into a sublimation printer and the inks in the package are not sublimation inks.

WF-7720 is an entry-level sublimation printer introduced by Epson to help those who are new to imprinting designs on shirts, phone cases, and mugs. That said, this WorkForce printer has a rather bulky design compared to the two models we discussed above. What’s new is the availability of a full-fledged control panel combined with auto-duplex and scanning.

The major features include:

PrecisionCore Technology for High-Res Prints!

Epson has used precision core technology in this printer. According to the manufacturer, it performs better than laser printing and brings vibrant results while sublimating a design onto transfer paper.

Versatile Enough!

WorkForce WF-7720 is versatile enough. Apart from sublimation, you could also use it as a copier, scanner, and fax machine. The versatility of the WF-7720 isn’t talked about much.

Handling paper

We understand how much you need faster printing so to solve your problems, the printer provides a dual sheet capacity of 500 with an automatic document feed of up to 35 pages.

Regular Firmware and Software Updates!

Well, Epson does not compromise on the security and privacy of its users. In this context, it offers regular firmware and software updates that would keep your printer secure. Plus, these updates could also remove small bugs from the machine to help you print more actively.

The control panel comprises soft-press buttons along with a large 4.3” touchscreen LCD. Thus, you can easily navigate the machine and adjust the settings to print and sublimate the design you want according to your preferences.

  • Touchscreen LCD with soft-pressing control panel buttons.
  • easy to use and affordable by consuming 80% less power
  • Could be used as a copier, scanner, and fax machine.

  • Design is a little bulky compared to Artisan 1430 and C88+
  • USB prints are distorted most of the time.

What We Think!

WF-7720 is a sublimation printer that’s suitable for entry-level printing businesses. The printing speed of this printer is awesome, and its LCD navigation is extraordinary. Moreover, it can imprint full HD images onto sublimation paper without any hassle.

Some users really had a great experience by saving 80% power consumption. But we found it a little bit high running cost due to its ink cartridges because the inkjet printer doesn’t compromise on the quality prints. If you don’t have a handsome budget I suggest staying away from this model due to its high running cost.

5. Epson Stylus C88+ – Classic With High Resolution

Epson Stylus C88

  • Print Field Size: 8.5” x 14”
  • DPI: 5760×1440
  • Connectivity: Wired/USB
  • Printing Technology: Inkjet
  • Compatibility: PC/Laptops
  • Manufacturer Warranty: 1 year

C88+ with its sleek design, intuitive printing technology, and improved dpi resolution tops our list for being the best sublimation printing with the highest resolution option in 2022. To get started with, printing different designs on a sublimation paper via C88+ seems rather convenient.

Moreover, the regular 4-color inkjet cartridges are there to improve the overall printing experience. Stylus C88+ does ensure durability and longevity. That’s one of the reasons you will find it a little bit more expensive than other models.

Some of its major features include:

Smudge Resistant Prints!

With the latest C88+, you can expect smudge-resistant printing, no matter if it’s a document, a regular color print, or a sublimated print. The DuraBRITE color pigment plays its role in ensuring a smooth printing interface without any smudges.

High-Resolution Printer!

You would not believe it but this sublimation printer offers a dpi (dots per inch) ratio of 5760×1440. It simply means you will get even ultra HD prints of designs, images, and other artworks on sublimation paper for further processing.

Fast Printing Speed Saves Time!

Not to mention, the Epson Stylus C88+ sublimation printer can print black-and-white documents at a speed of 23 minutes per page. For colored and sublimated printing, the speed is around 14 per minute, which is simply exemplary.

Wired Connectivity!

C88+ offers only USB connectivity. And we also suggest a USB connection that is more reliable than wireless connectivity. But the main drawback is it doesn’t support wireless connectivity.

Border Free Photo Printing Makes Life Easy!

Many sublimation printers have this flaw that while you print a design on the paper, the printer will imprint its borders as well. That’s not the case while using this latest Epson printer. The machine offers border-free design prints that will save you from trimming the imprinted shape further.

Built-In Photo Editing Software Included!

Another impressive option indeed! The easy-to-use photo editing software offers a plethora of editing options. So, you can edit the design before it starts printing.

In Particular, the details in the printed design were way above any other Epson printer that we admire. The only minor issue with the printer is that it lacks Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity which annoyed me the most and I understand these connectivities are part of our lives.

1. Impact of Print Field Size

The print field size of a printer consists of two measuring standards, i.e., length and width. How does it impact the overall printing? Well, the bigger the printing field, the bigger the imprints of designs and artworks.

In that context, if you are dealing with imprinting large designs for sublimation, we would recommend getting an Epson printer with at least a 13” x 19” field size. It will make your work much easier and hassle-free. For reference, you can check out the likes of EcoTank ET-4760 or Stylus C88+ printers.

2. DPI and High-Quality Images

DPI or dots per inch defines the overall resolution ratio of a printed image or design on sublimation paper. It’s a fact that no one would want a low-quality design for sublimation on t-shirts and other substrates.

Therefore, it’s necessary that you consider the DPI density of the Epson printer you are about to get. The standard is set at 4800×1200. However, we also have Epson printers available that offer a dpi density of up to 5760×1440.

Always remember, the more the dpi, the better the image resolution and that’s something you must consider before deciding on a sublimation printer.

3. Connectivity Options

Having versatile connectivity options simply means ease and convenience. Could you imagine your smartphone without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in 2022?

Obviously not!

The same is the case when we talk about Epson sublimation printers these days. You simply can’t ignore the connectivity options in a printing machine. The most advanced printing machines from Epson have got both wired and wireless connectivity options.

That is, you will get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, and Ethernet connectivity. Some printers would even have NFC and Wi-Fi Direct options available. The presence of such versatile connectivity options makes sublimation quite easy.

No matter where you have stored your design, you connect the device to the printer and BOOM! It will get transferred to the machine in no time. So, pay a good amount of attention to the connectivity options before getting yourself an Epson printer.

4. Ink Cartridges or Ink Tanks

Epson printers usually could be categorized into two types. That is; Models that accept ink cartridges only. Models that accept refillable ink bottles via ink tanks.

Which type is better? You might ask! From a sublimation perspective, it’s better to have a printer that comes with refillable ink tanks.

That’s because refilling the ink tank with sublimation ink seems like an easy job. Moreover, sublimation ink is mostly available in refillable ink bottles only. And the cartridge-free solution is also a reliable and affordable running process for long. You can go with ET 16650 or ET 8550.

Not only that, but these special EcoTank printers from Epson could save you a fortune on ink usage and can help you scale your sublimation business at the same time. Although ink cartridges are easy to use, we’d suggest you get a printer that offers a refillable ink tank for convenient usage.

5. The Budget Factor

Last but not the least, many people have this question: how much money should they spend on a sublimation printer?

Well, when it comes to Epson, you can get a printer of this brand for as low as $300. The prices could also go as high as $1500 with some extra perks and qualities.

It all comes down to the business factor and the kind of money you have saved for the printer. If you work on large-scale production, a $1000 to $1500 Epson printer would do just fine for you. But, if your primary concern is to get started from scratch with sublimation, it’d be better to spend no more than 500 bucks on a printer.

How to Convert an Epson Printer into a Sublimation Printer?

The whole process is quite easy. You will need the following things first:

Things You Will Need:

Sublimation Ink. We would suggest you get the Hiipoo Sublimation Ink Bottles as it works with many Epson models. Dropping the link below:

Epson Printer: We have chosen the Epson EcoTank 4760 and 16650 in this scenario. You can check its specs above.

Steps to Follow:

1. Do not plug in your printer. Take it out of the box and locate the refillable super tank where you will put the sublimation ink.

2. If you watch closely, each refillable tank of ET-4760 is properly marked with each color, because it’s a free ink cartridge printer i.e., Black, Yellow, Magenta, and Cyan.

3. Take out the syringes from the Hiipoo sublimation ink package. You will get 4 syringes for 4 bottles as one syringe could mix the colors and the whole process will become messy.

4. Open the lids of refillable tanks on the printer. Use a syringe to transfer ink from the bottle to the tank. Watch the tank window carefully to see whether it has been refilled completely or not It is the same process for cartridges also.

Or you can use the Ecofit ink bottles which were included in the package with every printer. Remove the regular ink from the ink bottles, rinse them thoroughly, fill the ink bottles with sublimation ink and here you go!

5. Repeat the process of transferring all colors to the ink tanks one by one.

6. Hook up the power cord on the back of the machine and plug it into the electric outlet accordingly. Do not connect your computer to the printer yet.

7. In the control panel menu, select your language, country, time, and date as per your preferences.

8. Press one of the buttons on the control panel for 5 seconds. The printer will then confirm whether you have filled the ink or not.

9. Press another button from the panel and the printer will then start its process. It will take around 10 minutes.

10. You will see that the ink tank levels have lowered after 10 minutes. That’s actually the printer working on its end to read the things.

Finally, connect your computer, transfer the design, place a sublimation paper in the printer’s tray, and let it sublimate the artwork. We have successfully converted an Epson regular printer into a sublimation one.

What Epson Printers Can Be Used For Sublimation

Not all Epson printers can be converted into sublimation. Only Epson Ecotank printers are capable to be converted into sublimation. The reason behind this logic is that Ecotank printers contain a Micro Piezo print head that pushes the sublimation ink into the gaseous form from the solid state. The above-mentioned printers are all the best Epson Ecotank sublimation printers that can be converted into sublimation.
